LIVE, LOVE, DANCE

The dance is strong magic. The dance is a spirit. It turns the body to liquid steel. It makes it vibrate like a guitar. The body can fly without wings. It can sing without voice.
The dance is strong magic. The dance is life.

About the Show
Montreal-based choreographer Sylvain Émard shatters the distinctions between line dancing and contemporary dance, creating an extremely colorful and contagious 30-minute event. Created at Montréal's internationally renowned Festival TransAmériques (FTA) in 2009, Le Grand Continental originally featured sixty amateur dancers. Since then the show has tripled in size, most recently presented in the historic center of Mexico City with movement inspired by Latin social dancing. This time around, the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival will host the largest presentation of its kind with 200+ performers of all ages and backgrounds, ranging in experience from professional dancers to pure amateurs. It will be a line dance extravaganza filled with contagious community spirit, a show not to be missed.

So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 Episode 2 : LA Auditions Recap

So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 Episode 2 :
LA Auditions Recap

Episode 2, LA Auditions, wasn't spectacular as episode 1, New York and Dallas Auditions, But, there were a few highlights that I want to share with you all. There was a Hipster, Surfer and Tap Dancer, all in one. A guy who danced in a giant hoop. And a fabulous set of twins. Lets review, shall we?

These twins were so much fun to watch. So much so that I believe they should have there own reality show. I would tune in to watch them and there over the top antics every week.

I haven't been to the circus in many, many years. As, I'm sure, many of us over a certain age can say. But, if this is what circus acts look like now. I'll buy a front row ticket.

I never knew that ADHD and a mustache could be so cute. If he makes it he will definitely have the female vote. And it doesn't hurt that he a surfing and a great dancer.

Will be watching next week, will be twitting during the show. What were your favorites of the LA auditions?

So You Think You Dance Season 9 Premier : The Recap

So You Think You Dance Season 9 Premier : The Recap

Exciting, Dynamic and Touching are just a few words to describe the first episode of  So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 which premiered Thursday, May 24th. This episode featured the New York and Dallas auditions. There were many talented dancers that got a golden ticket straight to the next round in Las Vegas and there were plenty that needed to rethink there career goals. But, there were a few stand out auditions that wowed, shocked and even made me shed tear.

The first was Shafeek Westbrook from Philly. A Breaker, Popper and self described Flipper he auditioned in New York and WOWED the judges with amazing flips and power moves. He "moved like silk" as one judge described. His audition was captivating. He represented his city to the fullest and I can't wait to see what he does in Vegas.

Bree Hafen is a mother of two adorable children and a beautiful dancer. She credits being a Wife and Mother for giving her the confidence to audition in Dallas. With her two little ones watching she danced her heart out and sealed her place in the next round. In the most adorable moment on the show her two year daughter takes the stage, dancing with control and grace, bringing the audience to there feet.

The most touching audition was from Jarell Rochelle (Yes, it rhymes) His goal is to dance his best for his mother before goes blind due to a disease that is slowly taking away her sight. He danced with such beauty and spirit. He deeply moved the audience and judges. His Mother shed tears of joy as she handed her son his ticket to Vegas.

Those were a few of my favorite auditions. What did you think for the first episode of SYTYCD Season 9? What were your favorite auditions?

Forget what you thought you knew about ballet. Catch the all new reality series premiere of Breaking Pointe, Thursday May 31 on The CW.

Ballet has stepped into the spotlight on the big and the small screen.  Like the movie "First Position" (read post below) this part reality, part documentary will follow young ballet dancers as they go through the up and downs of becoming a professional Ballet Dancer. You will see the good, the bad and the ugly of the VERY competitive world of Dance.

Check out this amazing clip from the Ballet documentary "First Position"

Check out this amazing clip from the Ballet documentary "First Position"

Here's a review from Allan Ulrich The San Francisco Chronicle's dance correspondent.

"Yes, it is possible to create a gripping documentary about the ballet world without resorting to "Black Swan" melodramatics. This crisply edited and uncommonly observant film tracks a handful of gifted young people as they prepare for and compete in the Youth America Grand Prix, which claims to be the most comprehensive contest of its kind in the world."
